Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Grabs More Tourist Money

Will it be Double Dutch? Next time you visit this favorite foreign city of your travel4seniors.com editor, be aware. Politicians there will be taking more cash out of your travel pocket.

The charming city already has the highest hotel tax rates in Europe. And they will go higher. Of course, as in many world cities, that’s just the tip of the extra charges. So, when you see ads touting hotels for $99.99 a night, whether in the Dutch or other tourist city, that’s just the start of the real cost. With add-ons of local taxes, resort fees and other hits, consider your advertised room rate may be actually only about half of what you’ll really have to pay. www.cnn.com/travel/article/amsterdam-tourist-tax-increase

Airport Security: New Cell-Like Pods Scan Passengers PDF Print E-mail

An addition to the already-time-consuming passenger check-in process, a new security level has been installed at Syracuse Hancock International (SYR) and Atlantic City (ACY). If proven effective, it will soon be caging people at an airport near you.

Then a green light indicates the process is complete, and the cell-like pod door can be opened.

Denver CO: Rocky Mountain High With Legal Pot PDF Print E-mail

Some of our now-sedate senior readers may want to bring back memories of  their 1960s hippie days. Recall nights of secret marijuana parties in campus dorms or behind the barracks. Their travel plans could perk up now that pot is legal in Colorado, and some Denver travel organizations offer special events related to the hemp product.

While still forbidden in that state to smoke pot in public, there are opportunities for tourists to consume various marijuana products without breaking the law. For example, party buses and limos tour the Rockies while sightseers can smoke or eat pot-based products. Enroute they can indulge while creatively appreciating the beautiful snow-capped scenery and surrounding clouds, both inside and outside.
