New Taiwan Hotel Rooms Are Miniature Casinos

Gone are the days of the one-armed bandit and other coin-operated mechanical machines. Today’s casinos feature all kinds of electronic slots that give you colorful displays while taking in many of your paper dollars. However, things they are a’changing!

The newly opened, five-star i-Hotel  in Taouan claims to be the world’s first total e-gambling mecca. Each guest room is equipped as a mini-casino, with two multi-purpose computers featuring electronic versions of the traditional casino slot machines, as well as fun computer games, movies and regular TV programs.

There are also computerized gambling machines in the super-modern hotel lobby and other areas of the luxury destination. Quoted room rates are listed from about $50 a night.

California: L.A. Museum's new Dinosaur Hall PDF Print E-mail

Even though it happened a million years ago, my spouse always cries whenever we visit the Los Angeles Natural History Museum. Outside in the garden area is a replica of a momma dinosaur who’s unable to save her baby as they slowly sink into a prehistoric tar pit.

You may or may not cry, but you’ll be emotional when you see the new exhibit at the museum's new Dinosaur Hall. The greatly expanded 14,000 square-foot facility features the world's only Tyrannosaurus rex growth series, consisting of Thomas, a 30-foot, 18-year-old, a 20-foot juvenile and an 11-foot baby. Or, as my spouse would say it, a happy family group.

Others included in the displays are 20 fully reconstructed skeletons of Triceratops, and an enormous 68-foot, long-necked Mamenchisaurus. Bring your kids, because within the two big galleries are many more prehistoric creatures and all kinds of interactive, electronic and hands-on things to do. They’ll also get peeks into workshops, where museum experts clean and assemble the bones.

Future air travel according to a 1905 painting PDF Print E-mail

Old airplane

This very creative illustration was published just two years after the Wright Brothers made the first very short flight at Kitty Hawk NC. It predicted a typical flight in 100 years.

Although that’s not what actually happened, note an unexpected idea in the painting. Although women couldn’t vote until 1918, the pilot of the 1905 concept airplane is a woman!

It has actually been 106 years since this new flying machine was predicted for our time. Maybe today’s passengers stuck in airports for hours would gladly climb aboard the little flying machine.

The Netherlands: Pot shops may ban foreign buyers PDF Print E-mail

The Netherlands government may pass legislature that bans open marijuana shops. It wants to turn them into private clubs, with membership limited to Dutch citizens age 18 and above. If the law goes into effect, the clubs will appropriately be called Weed Pass.

According to government authorities, the measure will stop those foreigners who come to The Netherlands just to buy the legal pot. They say the visitors are responsible for much of the street crime and other disruptions in Amsterdam and other tourist areas.

However, the mayor of Amsterdam and many local merchants are opposed to the strict law. They claim that the use of marijuana is a symbol of the city’s free style and is actually beneficial to its tourist industry.
