Lonely Planet: World’s Top Ten Places To Visit Now

Although some savvy senior wanderers may not agree nor ever heard of several of them, the list is an interesting compilation. They’re popular destinations suggested by Lonely Planet. They are, including two U.S. cities, in rank order:

Bordeaux, France; Cape Town, South Africa; Los Angeles CA; Merida, Mexico; Ohrid, Macedonia; Pistoia, Italy; Seoul, South Korea; Lisbon, Portugal; Moscow, Russia and Portland OR.

Er .... is something missing from that list? Has any senior wanderer ever heard about such obscure destinations as New York NY, London UK, Paris, France and Venice, Italy?. And where is Tony Bennett’s favorite city with the little cable cars that go halfway to the stars?

Need a Local Dog Host While You Travel? PDF Print E-mail

It’s not like the traditional kennel where you leave Fido locked in a virtual dog prison. A new company has created an online dog hosting service. It matches up local owners with travelers who want their dogs to stay in more natural home settings with just one or two other dogs.

The new website DogVacay.com is sort of a dog online dating service. It lets pet owners look up hosts in their area who’ll care for dogs in their own homes, providing food, exercise and companionship you’d give if you stayed home. The price goes from $25 to $30 per day. DogVacay plans to add other pets, including cats and birds to the service.

UAL: Get your little butt back in line, kid! PDF Print E-mail

Just when you thought airlines couldn’t come up with another scheme to make flying more miserable, United Airlines has done it.

UAL officials recently took a few moments away from drowning kittens and pulling puppy tails. Pleased with themselves, they announced that the privilege of early boarding for families with small children is over. They’ll now have to wait in line with the rest of coach passengers.

With airlines always finding reasons to earn extra bucks, some also charge for families who want to sit together in the cheap seats.

Of course, the new rules don’t apply if the family is willing to pay 4 or 5 times the coach price to sit in first class with the two-percenters. Then, as they board, they can also sneer at the peasants and mingle with the other rich people and government officials flying to Vegas conventions.
