Branson Offers Prayer Sessions On Virgin Australia Flights

To make flying more serene, Virgin aircraft will feature quiet moments for passengers to reflect and relax while in the air.

Your travel4seniors.com editor volunteers some prayers I would fervently offer in flight for heavenly Virgin fulfillment:

Please don’t send my checked luggage to Timbuktu!
I hope there’s no nutcase with a bomb aboard my flight!
Let there be no three-hour delays on the tarmac!
I pray there’s no 400-pound passenger, barfing alcoholic, stinky smokaholic nor wailing poopy baby next to me on my aircraft seat!

Travel Tips When With Wheelchair-Bound Mate PDF Print E-mail

Q: My husband suffered a stroke recently and is now unable to walk. While in the Air Force, and for decades after retirement he was an avid world traveler. Now, his physical limits are frustrating to both of us. I won’t leave him home when I travel. Suggestions? AMT, Amarillo TX

A: In a word: patience. Plan ahead to avoid rushing to airports and being overwhelmed by crowds and tight schedules. Do everything possible to make journeys pleasant and unhurried for you and your husband.

If more convenient to leave his wheelchair at home, call ahead to airlines, cruise ships and hotels for free or rentals. If he’s capable, electric vehicles can make it easier, especially for city and historic site sightseeing tours.

Las Vegas NV: Enjoy Vintage Sinatra & Pals PDF Print E-mail

Have you had enough of the squawking, barking, twerking, cursing and screaming that passes for music these days? If your senior memories require it, take a nostalgic trip to Sin City to enjoy the soothing sounds of the Sinatra era.

After starring at the Sands (now the Venetian) through the 1950s, Sinatra performed for several years at the then-new Caesars Palace. You can recapture some memories of that era. For an evening of the music of Frank and pals, visit the Matt Goss Throwback Show there.

Amtrak Provides Quiet Cars: Peaceful Passenger Refuges PDF Print E-mail

The national train service now has designated cars where riders can sit, snooze, silently work on touch screens and listen to quiet music by earphones. Considering the continuously escalating problems of flying, this has to be a blessing. The signs in the cars instruct: Please refrain from loud talking or using cell phones in this car.

Unlike flighing, there's no fighting over ever-decreasing legroom, listening to squawking iPhone yakkers nor enduring screaming kids. Weary seniors who ride on the Amtrak quiet cars can now enjoy what is almost impossible anywhere else in the insanely cacophonic world of travel. For schedules and other info, go to www.amtrak.com

Do Airlines, Cruise Lines & Hotels Spy On You? PDF Print E-mail

If you’re familiar with travel4seniors.com, you know our editors are constantly on the road, in the air and at sea. In our wanderings we’ve found a recent tech trend to be very pleasing. At the same time it could disturb some senior travelers until they become accustomed to it.

An example happened when we recently checked into a familiar Manhattan hotel. Arriving at the desk, we were greeted cheerfully by name, and had already been pre-assigned to a preferred room on a favorite floor.

Entering, we found a bottle of our favorite wine on the table, as well as familiar snacks. When we called to order breakfast in the morning, we were asked if we wanted our usual choices.

West Hollywood CA: Hotel Where Chaplin Once Lived PDF Print E-mail

Since we relocated to the area five years ago, we’re just a few blocks away, but had never heard of this 90-year-old Hollywood hideaway hotel until recently. It’s not on the glamorous Sunset Strip, by trendy Malibu Beach nor in glitzy Beverly Hills. It’s on Sweetzer Avenue, a quiet residential lane in West Hollywood.

The Charlie, built in 1924 as a private residence, and lived in by the Little Tramp for several years, is actually a large English-style cottage, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It’s now a luxury, all-suite hotel, with private parking within its entrance gate.
