All too frequently there are stories of air rage in news reports. Man refuses to buckle his seat belt. Woman insists on smoking in the bathroom and locks herself in. A fight starts when one passenger stumbles over feet blocking the aisle. If you're a vulnerable senior in the middle of such angry flight incidents, what can you do?

Incidents of air rage seem to be rising every year, probably due to some extent  because flying is now such a frustrating experience. Passengers must report to the crowded airport at least an hour early, deal with tight security and unending fears of terrorism. Before they even board their flight, many passengers are already nervous and resentful.

Las Vegas NV: Great Destination For Group Gatherings PDF Print E-mail

Guest Travel Correspondent PLL, Boston MA: Las Vegas is one of the nation's most popular destination for group reunions. In addition to military vets, the many attendees include extended families, high school classmates, college pals, work associates and many others who want to share memories.

Vegas Reunion: Now retired five years, I was recently invited by members of my company ad department to join them. About 20 current and retired employees had decided to meet and stay at MGM Grand, where Leo the Lion guards the entrance.

We had a great time talking about old times over dinner at Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the resort. The menu is classic American, with something for everyone’s taste. The food was delicious and the prices reasonable for Las Vegas.

Avoid Bringing Bedbugs Home From Hotels PDF Print E-mail

Senior Travel Writer HLM, Tampa FL: It happened to us once, and in of all places, a posh Las Vegas resort. The morning after our first night, we had itchy, bloody bites and saw little specks on the bed sheets. When we called the front desk, they sent up a guy with a camera, but nothing to help us. They offered us a room down the hall, but we checked out pronto.

After we flew home, we didn’t take our bags inside. We placed them in the back yard, then put all our clothes from the trip immediately in the washer, set on very hot. We sprayed the empty bags with bug killer several times over two days, then washed them inside and out with soapy water.

The old saying still haunts us today: Good night; sleep tight; don’t let the bedbugs bite. Now, whenever we check into a hotel room, we first pull the covers down and expose the sheets and pillows to bright light. If there’s any indication of infestation, we’re immediately on our way to another hotel.

When Air Turbulence Suddenly Hits Your Flight PDF Print E-mail

Recent news reports injuries in a United flight from Houston to London when it was rocked by severe turbulence. Many passengers and crew members were thrown around and needed medical care. It also caused the flight to be diverted into another airport, creating schedule problems for all aboard.

On almost all flights, by regularly scanning threatening weather ahead, the pilot warns all aboard of expected turbulence. When you get the info, immediately get back into your seat, tightly fasten the seatbelt and stow away all loose items. This is especially important for senior travelers, typically not as agile as younger people, who may suffer more serious injuries from unexpected turbulence.
