Carnival Cruise Lines: You Can Give Up The Ship PDF Print E-mail

Unhappy passengers won’t be forced to walk the plank if they do, but Carnival Cruise Lines now offers an opt-out. Unsatisfied, ill or frightened passengers can get off their cruise ship for free within one day of leaving port.

Carnival's "Great Vacation Guarantee," was recently established to assure passengers they don’t have to endure a troubled cruise, including when the ship has unexpected repair problems. If it happens, passengers must notify the ship's guest services desk that they want to end their cruise during its first 24 hours. If properly alerted, Carnival promises to return their money and send them home with free transportation.

Las Vegas NV: Need A Boost? REVIV at MGM Grand PDF Print E-mail

One of our favorite movies is 1997’s “Vegas Vacation”. A family plays bingo at the MGM Grand Resort. Dad Griswold (Chevy Chase) has gambled away thousands of family savings dollars, and they're about to leave town totally broke. Then, in a lucky moment, they get it all back and thousands more, because a dying old man (the great Sid Caesar) gives them his winning bingo ticket.

Current Vegas celebrants can get similar uplifts at the MGM Grand. The new service there, called REVIV, offers medical help to those who overdo (and who doesn’t?) their Vegas vacations. Staffed by certified physicans and nurses, there are various revival offerings to help party animals who do a bit too much partying.

Treatments include hydration, IVs, electrolytes, multivitamins, antioxidants and other medications. There are also relaxing spa and massage services available. Fees start at $99, and REVIV is available seven days a week from 9 a.m. to midnight. For MGM guests, in-room service is also offered. For more information, go to www.revivme.com/las-vegas

Disneyland CA: Hefner Scooters And So Can You PDF Print E-mail

Recent photos of Hugh Hefner, 87, and his young wife scooting around the Happiest Place on Earth should be an inspiration for other walk-challenged seniors. The wheels help them enjoy hanging out with Mickey and his pals at the Disney parks in California, Florida and other world locations.

For a fee, you can make the hours there less exhausting and more convenient. To rent wheels, the daily price for the visit on an electric scooter is $50, and $12 for a manual wheelchair. In addition to the convenience of your wheels, they also get you to the front of the lines on many Disney attractions. Abu Dhabi, UAE: Airport Catnaps $12.50 An Hour PDF Print E-mail

This Middle Eastern airport is not the first to offer small nap spaces. Many Asian terminals have locker-like cocoons for weary travelers. However, Abu Dhabi has a unique, egg-shaped solution for finding resting places.

The available GoSleep pods in the airport waiting area are chairs that convert into flat beds and feature sliding privacy shades that isolate the occupant from noise, light and crowds. For that fee, it may be possible for a person to actually rest in a busy, bustling airport. To misquote Kipling: If you can keep your head down while all around you are screaming theirs off...”

Pew Survey: Do Seniors Yearn To Live More Years? PDF Print E-mail

According to the respected research institute’s recent findings, only 4% of American seniors would want to live to age 120. Euwwww, Pew! We do not agree at all! Those statistical beancounters should take another count!

Most of our seasoned travelers we’ve talked to recently would cherish those extra years to fulfill some great bucket lists. The first response was that they’d like to spend more time with their loved ones, and then embark on exciting ventures by air, sea and land.

The list could include sticking around long enough to see the Kardashians fade into blessed obscurity, watch the Boston Red Sox win another World Series, be in London to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 100th jubilee and attend Wayne Newton’s 90th annual Las Vegas on-stage performance.

Additionally, even if it seems forever just a dream, some elder voters hope to survive long enough to see the end of war, crime, poverty and disease. And by the way, we’d want to witness the election of honest and intelligent politicians. Of course, that wish may be a total impossibility.

Additionally, to live that long could also cause some heartache. As Mel Brooks’ famous 2,000-year-old man once kvetched: I have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. And not one of them ever even picks up the phone to call me!
