Ras ak-Khaimah, UAE: Obey Dress Code Or Else! PDF Print E-mail

On some beaches in France, Sweden, Australia, the U.S. and elsewhere, you can show up wearing skimpy swimsuits, topless or no clothing at all. However, when you want to sun yourself on other beaches, you must obey the local laws or you get in trouble.

For example, tourists are being warned to cover up on certain public beaches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or face a fine for showing too much skin. Authorities in Ras al-Khaimah emirate, have signs on public beaches warning of penalties for certain swimwear. Forbidden are two-piece bikinis and Speedo-style swim trunks for men.

The beaches are located 60 miles northeast of Dubai. Emirate officials enforce the rules because religious laws and local standards declare nudity and skimpy swimwear offensive to Dubai residents. So, wherever your travels allow to bathe and sun, be sure you know the local rules so you won’t expose too much of yourself (and your bank account).

Many senior travelers are accustomed to sneaking leftovers from restaurants back to their hotel rooms for free late-night snacks. It also happens on cruise ships for moonlight bites on deck or munchees in their cabins.

However, Norwegian has now forbidden doggy bagging on its ships. Uber Mobile App Rides: We Hear Good And Bad PDF Print E-mail

When we think of Uber, we remember Rodney Dangerfield’s oft-lamented cry, “I don’t get no respect!” The taxi-like service that hires individual car owners to deliver passengers is very successful in many parts of the world.

However, outcries from traditional taxi companies and individual complaints are constantly casting shadows over Uber’s services and drivers. The most prevalent gripe is that Uber isn’t required to follow the strict hiring, licensing and insurance regulations that taxi drivers must have. In some cities, Uber has been cited for various offenses or totally banned.

Stella The Solar-Powered Car May Some Day Hit Highways PDF Print E-mail

In A Streetcar Named Desire, Marlon Brando sent up that classic agonized cry: Stelllllaaa! According to a recent Yahoo article, seasoned citizen roadies may some day call out the same word just as emotionally. However, it will be in happy admiration as they roll along without ever again needing to fill up at a highway (robbery) gas station.

The Stella experimental prototype seats four, and last year won the World Solar Car challenge race across Australia. It was recently driven successfully the 400 miles along California’s scenic Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles to San Francisco.

Solar Team Eindhoven, where Stella originated, currently operates from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. The solar-powered cars run on sunlight that is converted and stored in photovoltaic cells.

Unfortunately, you can’t start shopping for one yet. As yet, they’re not more economical than gasoline-powered vehicles. There’s no current info about when they can be mass-produced, pricing, maintenance and other development steps. However, we senior wanderers can all hope Stella will soon answer our mournful cries for economical road travel. www.solarteameindhoven.nl
