First-time Senior Visit To St. Petersburg, Russia |
Guest Senior Correspondent LLMacB, Seattle WA: When today’s seasoned citizens were young, the Soviet Union was our enemy. Almost daily, it threatened to blow us all to hell with atom bombs, unless of course, we wiped them out first.
We who did wartime duty in Korea and/or Vietnam in the 50s, 60s and 70s, often faced Russian weapons. They were used to shoot at our planes, ships and GIs. In those Cold War times, not many of us had any wish to peacefully visit Russia.

Experience The Historic And Beautiful City Of Sarajevo |
Now capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo's history goes back to Roman times. Senior history buffs may associate it with the 1914 assassination there that within four years resulted in deaths of millions on World War I battlefields of Europe. Sarajevo today is a great European destination for many reasons. Transportation: Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) is served by international carriers. For example, roundtrip economy class fares on Turkish Airlines from the U.S., with service through Istanbul, are about $2,000.

San Francisco CA: Ya Gotta Experience Lombard Street |
Guest Senior Venturer YLH, Chicago IL: The one thought I always have when visiting that one crazy block of Lombard Street is: the people who live in these houses must be really tired of seeing hordes of climbing tourists. Worse, lines of creeping sightseeing cars jamming their street every hour of every day and night.
Actually the city's Lombard Street is not confined to this one block, but the famous spot is a one-way meander between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets. It features eight very sharp zigzags, and boasts "the crookedest street in the world". Of course, any Washington DC street where politicians roam is certainly much more crooked in theory, if not actuality.

San Francisco CA: A City For Outstanding Senior Sightseeing |
Guest Senior Travel Writer AAL, Omaha NE: Just about everywhere you look in all directions is a beautiful view. Tony Bennett sings about it:
I left my heart in San Francisco. High on a hill, it calls to me. To be where little cable cars Climb halfway to the stars!
If I had to choose just a few spots in the beautiful city, it would be difficult, but here’s my attempt.
