STEP: Smart Traveler Enrollment Program

Savvy seniors who roam the world are signed on to this free U.S. State Department program. It’s for Americans who want to keep up with the most current conditions in areas where they plan to travel.

Unfortunately, terror attacks too often interrupt travel plans. They create confusion, cancellations and delays where they happen and throughout the world. Traveling seniors should constantly utilize STEP information to be as safe as possible during their journeys.

STEP makes available all phone numbers, locations and services of U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Wherever they wander, STEP enrollees are in daily communication with the nearest U.S. facility. For more info, go to step.state.go

Shout Aloha To Clean Air: Hawaii May Ban Cigarettes PDF Print E-mail

Next time you visit the beautiful island state, you may notice the air is brighter and more fragrant. The suggested state law sounds like a bad joke or misprint. It recommends a gradual increase in the minimum age to buy cigarettes from the current 21 to age 100, to go into effect in 2024.

How many addicted smokers live to 100? They typically cough out their final moments by age 60 in a cancer ward. Further, in your wanderings, can you just see a group of eager centenarians lined up at the Honolulu drugstore counter to buy cigarettes for their 75-year-old kiddies?

Actually, with many other states making lots of tax income from legit marijuana, it isn’t likely a Hawaii cigarette ban would cross the ocean into other US areas any time soon. So, on your next trip to Hawaii, smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Or just cough and find some clean air to breathe.

Fooled By Phony Airport Wall Socket Stickers? PDF Print E-mail

Some nasty jokesters paste realistic-looking paper stickers of fake power outlets near waiting areas at airports. Then they giggle and grin nearby as people try to plug in their chargers before boarding flights. The sticker photos are so realistic, there’s often a never-ending line of passengers waiting their turn to be fooled.

If it happens to you, look around for a grinning creep nearby. Don’t do what you’d prefer to with your plug, but do flash an electric grimace and a few choice cuss words at him.
