Los Angeles CA: Relax Free With Yoga At LAX PDF Print E-mail

To most seniors, airports are places to get to and get away from as quickly as possible. However, there are benefits to exploring some of them, even when flights are delayed or required to wait around for ground transportation.

The Los Angeles International Airport’s Imperial Terminal has the Flight Path Learning Center. In addition to the free gym and yoga facilities, it boasts the only aviation museum and research center located directly inside a major U.S. airport.

For kids through to seasoned citizens, the Center offers a flight-simulator training program. The address is 6661 Imperial Highway, Los Angeles CA 90045. For more info, go to flightpathmuseum.com

Top Bucket List Choices By Senior Travel Pros PDF Print E-mail

We questioned several veteran travel agents thus: Before you make that journey to qualify for angel wings, what would be your final earthbound trip? Here are some responses:

Rome: Of course, because of what many of my senior clients would quote: See Rome and die! I’d revisit the Vatican and look up at Michelangelo’s ceiling. That has to be a clue of what awaits us. There’s also the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and that little café by the Tiber I frequented decades ago with mi dolce amante. HJDeL, Denver CO

Paris: A favorite senior memory is Dinah Shore’s, The Last Time I Saw Paris. My bucket list for final moments in Paris would include strolling the Champs-Elysées in springtime, an evening at the Folies Bergére and a lovingly-shared bottle of fine French wine by the Seine. KLH, St. Paul MN

New York: I’d see all the current Broadway plays and musicals. I’d go to the top of the Empire State Building at sunset and get one last glimpse of my favorite town. Then, I’d hit the Carnegie Deli and eat a mile-high pastrami sandwich, with heaping sides of fried onion rings, potato salad and sour pickles. I'd top it all off with an enormous slice of strawberry cheese cake. Calories? Who cares about calories when there’s no tomorrow? JJF, USN, Retired, Miami FL

West Hollywood CA: Hotel Where Chaplin Once Lived PDF Print E-mail

Since we relocated to the area five years ago, we’re just a few blocks away, but had never heard of this 90-year-old Hollywood hideaway hotel until recently. It’s not on the glamorous Sunset Strip, by trendy Malibu Beach nor in glitzy Beverly Hills. It’s on Sweetzer Avenue, a quiet residential lane in West Hollywood.

The Charlie, built in 1924 as a private residence, and lived in by the Little Tramp for several years, is actually a large English-style cottage, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It’s now a luxury, all-suite hotel, with private parking within its entrance gate.

Houston TX: You Want Fries With That $200 Burger? PDF Print E-mail

A famed restaurant named 60 Degrees Mastercrafted in the Texas city serves the enormous and expensive Bistro Burger. Inside the gold-plate topped bun is chopped Japanese Akaushi rib eye steak, seared paté foie gras, caramelized onions, Bordelaise sauce, sautéed mushrooms and shaved truffles.

The Bistro Burger actually does come with a side of fries, upgraded from the ordinary with white truffles. Can any senior reader remember way back in the early 1940s, when you could get six modest-sized burgers for just a quarter at White Tower?

The Houston restaurant, one of many great ones in the Texas city, also offers much lower-priced hamburgers and other delicious food choices. 60 Degrees Mastercrafted, 2300 Westheimer Rd., Houston TX 77019 60degreesmastercrafted.com

Philadelphia Museum of Art Thru Wide-Angle Lens PDF Print E-mail

Tho artistically distorted by the roaming travel4seniors.com editor’s creative lens, seasoned movie fans can still recognize this memorable image. This is where Sylvester Stallone scaled the steps all the way to the top in 1976’s Rocky movie.

On second thought, maybe this could be what the steps would actually look like to a challenged senior jogger about to attempt climbing all 72 of them. Suggestion: If you’re in Philly with your grandkids, and before they dash off to school, run up the steps with them and into one of the world’s most fascinating museums.
