Your travel4seniors.com editor had a first Airbnb private home booking experience in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, recently. It proved to be a memorable weekend, and inspired some research into the fascinating travel feature.

The Airbnb service is spreading rapidly throughout the world. It now includes a growing list of available former California homes of beloved stars whose names are etched in our memories. Fees for each night vary from about $500 upward for three-night minimums. The prices can be comparative bargains, considering that many of the large, multi-bedroom houses with spas and pools can accommodate groups of people. An example is the available house where famous magician Harry Houdini lived in the Hollywood Hills above the Sunset Strip. A nearby home once belonged to Orson Welles and then-spouse Rita Hayworth, is also offered nightly by Airbnb.

On nearby Laurel Canyon is the house once owned by rock legend Jim Morrison. Other Airbnb Hollywood abodes have housed other stars, including Charlie Chaplin, Ava Gardner, Artie Shaw, Groucho Marx, Julie Andrews, Mickey Rooney and many more.

With Airbnb’s continuing expansion, senior travelers who want to bunk where celebs once lived can find famous house rentals everywhere. Consider it for a once-in-a-lifetime, bucket-list experience. www.airbnb.com
