If your travels take you to the area, and you have a night or two to spare, consider going back in time and enjoying some movie nostalgia. Television and smartphones haven’t quite killed the old tradition of attending movies in theaters.

In a city rich in entertainment, there are countless options for such experiences. One local film lovers' destination has a great midnight movie program, active since the theater's inception over 35 years ago. The Nuart's Cine Insomnia, shows eclectic movies every Friday night at the stroke of twelve. They include first-run productions, as well as some of the most beloved films in the 100-year history of Hollywood, and foreign classics.

The theater also regularly offers the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" every Saturday at midnight. The fun happens with encouraged interactive audience participation. On stage is a full live cast, and the audience is free to throw things at the screen.

There’s a full scale production, with costumed singers and dancers playing all the characters from the film on stage in front of the large screen. It all goes on while movies are played behind them, and the audience is encouraged to shout out familiar lines and well-known songs.

The Nuart is located at 11272 Santa Monica Blvd., in Westwood, near the 405 Freeway and UCLA. For tickets and latest info, go to www.landmarktheatres.com/los-angeles/nuart-theatre
