The romantically beautiful city of canals does get a few tastes of inverno (winter) weather, including a rare snowfall that only enhances its great charm. Temperatures in January and February average in the 40s at night and high 50s during the day.

However, whatever the weather, the old saying, see Venice and die, certainly applies, maybe more so to seniors who’ve never been there before. Enchanting Venice is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and should not be missed. Take along your ever-loving spouse. A gondola ride accompanied by a few choruses of “O sole mio” are guaranteed to reawaken all the romance of yesteryear.

The city is a treasure trove of warm people, cool music, medieval buildings, winding cobblestone streets, gondolas plying the canals, artisans, stylish shopping, festivals, quaint hotels, excellent restaurants and much, much more. As for January and February visits, it is the best time of year for sightseeing in Venice, because the hordes of spring, summer and autumn visitors crowding St. Mark’s Plaza have all gone home.
