Paris, France: Eiffel Tower New See-Thru Glass Floors

Many of our senior career women readers are too familiar with glass ceilings. Now, travels can take them to sky-high places where they’ll enjoy glass floors and breathtaking views.

The venerable Eiffel Tower, celebrating its 125th anniversary, now offers visitors a high floor with a clear glass bottom that reveals the city of Paris 200 feet below. The millions of visitors who flock to the landmark each year can now stand and look down on the beautiful city. www.toureiffel.paris/en

Here are several other glass-bottomed attractions around the world:  CN Tower, Toronto, Canada: The see-thru walkway vision is 1,122 feet high, and first opened 20 years ago. www.cntower.ca

Skytree, Tokyo, Japan: At nearly a half-mile high, the world’s highest freestanding broadcast tower offers the glass-bottom Tembo Deck at its 1,148 feet level, surrounded by 360-degree views from huge window panels. www.tokyo-skytree.jp

San Francisco CA: Beautiful City Of Long-Ago Memories PDF Print E-mail

It maybe was a bit spoiled by the hippie movement in the 1950s and by today’s homeless wanderers. However, your travel4seniors.com editor believes it’s still one of the world’s greatest travel destinations. My memories go way, way back to the 1940s as a teenage Navy sailor, the City By The Bay was a most welcome sight when I returned from World War 2 Pacific campaigns.

And they’re all still there today: The Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Chinatown dining, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf and Nob Hill. No wonder Tony Bennett left his heart there. When planning your next senior travels, consider putting San Francisco on your must-visit list. You’ll take home your own timeless memories.

Beware Of Phone Call Scams That Offer Free Cruises PDF Print E-mail

When you pick up the phone, it always begins with, “How are you today?” That should be the cue to hang up without responding. With today’s ever-advancing technology, online crooks can record your voice for future scams.

If you do stay on the line, the pitch begins with an offer of a free cruise, or you’ve won a free cruise. It sounds great, but the best response is to slam down your phone. Don’t fall for the phony promises. If you want to sail the seven seas, go online to get the latest info from a legitimate cruise line website, or contact a trusted hometown travel agent.

When Your Pet Flies, Obey All The Rules PDF Print E-mail

A recent airline tragedy where a dog placed in the overhead above the seat suffocated during the flight should be a reminder. Another in current headlines concerns a dog that was supposed to fly home to Kansas but was mistakenly shipped to Japan. When your pet travels by air, whether on your flight or alone, make sure all the paperwork is correct. Also be certain that Fido or Fluffy is properly prepared and will arrive at the correct destination in good health.

It could be a screaming baby, a yakker next to you, aisle noises and/or loud engine sounds. If it’s grossly overwhelming, you can ask the attendant to move you to another seat. Or you can solve the problem by blocking out the pain in the ears. Before your next flight, check for the latest in portable noise-reducing earphones and electronic video and sound devices.
