Opinion: Don’t Smart-Ass Test Airport Security


A recent news item reported that a young guy in a wheelchair deliberately went through security successfully with banned items in his bag. He used a hidden camera to show how he brought metal tools and bottled water.

This very old travel4seniors.com writer frequently must use a wheelchair in airports, and believes that kind of stupid joke is beyond unfunny. It creates added problems for all physically-challenged passengers who cannot walk aboard their flights.

A: First, an example. A recent news story about a street protest in London emphasizes a unique way to meet new people. The reporter asked a sign-carrying senior why he joined the march. The American tourist shrugged his shoulders and said it was a great way to meet people.

Mingling isn’t difficult if you can be outgoing, friendly and socially creative. When you’re in busy, friendly London, you don’t have to join a protest march. Just get out there, get talking and get noticed.
