Fido and Fluffy fly in exclusive comfort

Many people want to travel with their pets, but most airlines insist of putting the animals in cramped cages in baggage compartments. Long flights were very stressful for pets not accustomed to tight confinement. Additionally, where small pets were permitted to ride in passenger cabins, many non-pet people objected. Would you believe now there’s an airline that's pet-only? Pet Airways flies to five major cities, including New York and Los Angeles. The only humans aboard are the flight crew and flight attendants.

Along with favorite toys and travel bag, cats and dogs of all sizes can travel in comfort. Each one will have a roomy private compartment, and will be accompanied by trained animal care attendants. Food, water, aisle walks and toilet breaks will also be provided.

It won’t be cheap for Fido and Fluffy to fly in luxurious comfort. Ticket prices start at $149 each way. For more information, go to petairways.com

Five Must-See Movies About Roaming Seniors PDF Print E-mail

Next Year Jerusalem (2014): This documentary about eight elderly residents from a Connecticut senior facility followed them as they visited Israel. With some in wheelchairs and accompanied by aides and family members, they were determined to fulfill the traditional annual Passover pledge to journey to the ancient city.

Their travels, along with experiencing Jerusalem, included visits to the Biblical battle site of Masada, religious dips in the Jordan River and floating in the buoyant Dead Sea. They completed their pilgrimage by offering traditional prayers at the city's Western Wailing Wall.

The Bucket List (2007) Terminally-ill senior cancer patients share the same hospital room. Together, the wealthy Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) and mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) escape for one final fling. In their late 70s, they want to make the most of the limited time by enjoying life to the fullest. In addition to classic wine, women and song, their travels include Egypt's pyramids, the Taj Mahal, as well as auto races and gambling glitter in Monte Carlo.

UP (2009): Created by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures, this 3D production is more than a typical cartoon feature. Carl Frederickson (voiced by Ed Asner) was a balloon salesman who spent his 80 years dreaming of world travel. When he finally fulfilled his fantasy, he did it by tying together thousands of helium-filled balloons. With his uprooted house below serving as an airship, Carl sailed aloft to great adventures.

The Way (2011): Written, directed and produced by son Emilio Estevez, 71-year-old Martin Sheen portrayed Tom, an elderly American physician. He had the heartbreaking task of traveling to France to claim the body of his son, Daniel (portrayed by Estevez). Daniel had been killed during a storm while on a walking tour.

It was a popular roadway, Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) in the Pyrenees Mountains. To honor the memory of his son, Tom completed the 500-mile journey. His new experiences and unexpected friendships along the trail profoundly affected his outlook on life, as well as help him confront his grief.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012): Any movie starring both Judy Dench and Maggie Smith, at the time both age 77, has to be an instant classic. This is of a group of English seniors who were lured into investing their limited retirement resources to live economically in the tropical city of Jaipur, India.

They found out quickly that the flowery ads for the so-called exotic Marigold Hotel to entice them to India was greatly exaggerated. However, after some amusing cultural shocks, the elderly Brits actually settled in to enjoy their sunshine years in the new surroundings.
