Need a Local Dog Host While You Travel?

It’s not like the traditional kennel where you leave Fido locked in a virtual dog prison. A new company has created an online dog hosting service. It matches up local owners with travelers who want their dogs to stay in more natural home settings with just one or two other dogs.

The new website DogVacay.com is sort of a dog online dating service. It lets pet owners look up hosts in their area who’ll care for dogs in their own homes, providing food, exercise and companionship you’d give if you stayed home. The price goes from $25 to $30 per day. DogVacay plans to add other pets, including cats and birds to the service.

Actual Locations Of Oscar-Winning Movies PDF Print E-mail

Today, all kinds of new digital and other gizmos create images of other worlds. Everything’s done in the studios, and moviemakers don’t have to drag their cameras all over the place anymore. We seniors can only look back with nostalgia at actual locations where some of our favorites were filmed.

1. Monument Valley, Arizona: Director John Ford and star John Wayne made mucho movies at this beautiful area. Rocks and deserts sculptured by Mother Nature served as backdrops to historic scenes, such as in She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.

2. Halona Cove, Oahu, Hawaii: In From Here To Eternity, Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr had that torrid love scene on the beautiful beach.

3. Salzburg, Austria: The Sound of Music was filmed in the verdant valleys, the church steeples, the green countryside and the rippling rivers. Julie Andrews in her opening scene twirled among the peaks of the Alps. 4. Timberline Lodge, Oregon: The Shining was filmed in the sweet and serene woodsy location was featured in the film. Despite the fact that Jack Nicholson ended up as a ghost, the lodge isn’t haunted, except by happy families who vacation there today.

5. Staten Island, New York: The Godfather mansion film location where the Corleone family hung out is owned by a financier named Ed Norton. OK, if you remember the Jackie Gleason show, be aware he’s not that bumbling sewer worker.
