Miss Liberty's Crown to Welcome Visitors Again

Closed off to the public since 9/11/01 because of fears of another terrorist attack in New York City, the crown of the Statue of Liberty will finally reopen. With all patriotic symbolism, bands, political speeches, flags and fireworks, the official reopening ceremony will be held July 4.

Despite the fact that several weeks ago, a clueless Washington bureaucrat sent Air Force One soaring too close over the statue and scared the hell out of New Yorkers, all of Miss Liberty is now considered perfectly safe for visitors. First, after a boat ride from Manhattan, they take the elevator from the statue’s base, then climb the 168 steps to the observation platform.

The area has room for just 30 people at a time, and when the crowds are large, guards move everyone along so that each gets only a few moments in the crown. There they can stare 15 miles out of the 25 windows at the harbor, Ellis Island and a calmer New York City.

According to USA Today and the Washington Post, Disney will put up a 500-room hotel resort near Washington D.C. within the next year or two. About 15 years ago, Disney attempted to get permission to build a big theme park in nearby Virginia. However, because it could possibly disturb some Civil War battlefields, the request was turned down.

A Disney official said the new hotel will be "a family-friendly base camp, from which visitors from around the world can explore the stirring sights and inspirational stories of our nation's capital." Although the new Disney venture won’t have any of the familiar Disney features, we have suggestions for Washington- and government-themed attractions to draw in those world travelers.

Some would include: the McCain-Palin Hall of Never Presidents, the Supreme Food Court, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Repair Mission, Pirates of Somalia, Snow White’s Scary Adventures as Miss California, Joe Biden acts Goofy and Nancy Pelosi’s Waterboard Ride.

Look for Barack Obama’s It’s Not Such a Small World, And don’t miss Dumbo the Flying Idiot Who Had Air Force One Fly Over New York City  and the Statue of Liberty. But don’t look for the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. The bank has foreclosed it.
