Out To Sea (1997) Two of the screen’s most talented comedians, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, teamed up for several films after they starred in the Broadway-to-film hit, “The Odd Couple” (1968). This comedy was their final one, and the least appreciated by critics. However, I believe it to be one of their best, and the pair’s fumbling at-sea cruise ship adventures are hilarious.

Charlie Gordon (Matthau) and Herb Sullivan (Lemmon) sign on for a free cruise to perform as onboard escorts and dance partners for the many senior single women who typically sail alone. The Straight Story (1999) How often does a senior get to ride a lawnmower cross country? Based on a true story, Alvin Straight (Richard Farnsworth), a World War II veteran, is considered too elderly and frail to have a driver’s license. However, he’s determined to visit his brother one last time, a stroke victim who isn’t expected to survive.

For traveling the 240 miles from his home in Laurens, Iowa, to Mount Zion, Wisconsin, he decides to do it on a six-mile-per-hour riding mower, because it doesn't require a driver's license. How he accomplishes his task and the adventures and people he experiences along the way make for an interesting and touching travel tale. Finding out his late wife was unfaithful to him, Schmidt feels his life has become meaningless. He embarks on a road trip in an RV, which results in several unsatisfying, but humorous encounters with women.

The aging man eventually believes his life still has value after he begins composing and exchanging heartfelt letters with a poor African boy. The Bucket List (2007) This is another film in which the talented Jack Nicholson portrays an aging man facing an uncertain future. As wealthy businessman Edward Cole, he finds himself in a hospital room with retired auto mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman). Both are suffering serious ailments.

Realizing their time may be short, they decide to compose their bucket list, and sneak out of the hospital. They then travel the world from India to Africa and beyond, enjoying everything possible along the way. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011) A group of elderly Britons who can’t afford to retire in their homeland, travel to Jaipur, India, to live in what has been adverised as a luxury hotel at bargain rates. Although the highly-touted facilities  prove to be primitive by British standards, they manage to cope with the situation.
