Be Aware Of National Parks Problems Due To Politics PDF Print E-mail

If your winter and spring travel plans include visits to national parks, be aware of how the government shutdown has affected visitor services. As of early January, park employees have not been paid since the political stalemate started in December.

Although they’ve been promised all back wages, many are not on the job as the Washington DC political fight continues. For example, at Joshua Tree National Park in California's Mojave Desert, there are visitor complaints. Reports are that toilets are overflowing, trash isn’t being collected and other service problems. Keep in daily touch with National Parks websites, so you may determine whether to visit or postpone until the shutdown is resolved.
