No snooty desk clerks nor bumbling bellhops, the Buddy Hotel operates with a totally non-human staff. It’s a 75-room section of several floors in a modern downtown Munich office building, near museums and other city attractions.

Booking, check-in, parking, and escorting guests to rooms are done via Hetras Cloud-based technology. Arriving guests receive emails on their smartphone directing them to the check-in floor. There they sign in on an electronic tablet to be admitted. A security keycard is provided by a machine, and guests are directed to the elevator. The keycard operates the elevator, and it takes them to their floors and designated room doors. Complete entry into the hotel and to their rooms all happen automatically with no human staff required.

Some special features of a Buddy room include spa-like shower, free breakfast snacks, adjustable bed and big flat smart HD TV set. Rates are from $70 a night. www.hotel-buddy.de
