West Hollywood CA: Hotel Where Chaplin Once Lived Print

Since we relocated to the area five years ago, we’re just a few blocks away, but had never heard of this 90-year-old Hollywood hideaway hotel until recently. It’s not on the glamorous Sunset Strip, by trendy Malibu Beach nor in glitzy Beverly Hills. It’s on Sweetzer Avenue, a quiet residential lane in West Hollywood.

The Charlie, built in 1924 as a private residence, and lived in by the Little Tramp for several years, is actually a large English-style cottage, surrounded by beautiful gardens. It’s now a luxury, all-suite hotel, with private parking within its entrance gate.

Suites have full kitchens and other luxury amenities, and each is titled with the name of a Hollywood immortal. They include Charlie, Clark, Dylan, Gloria, Gregory, Valentino, Marilyn, Marlene and others.

The pet-friendly hotel, just a few city blocks from the Sunset Strip, with prices from $270, is at 819 N. Sweetzer Av., West Hollywood CA 90069. For booking and other info, go to www.thecharliehotel.com
